WELCOME BACK, LAUREN!

After a brief hiatus to animate a TV show and chase Michael Cera around Toronto, Fresh Media is happy to welcome Lauren McKinney back to the Fresh Media Family!  Lauren was actually Fresh Media's first ever employee, and as she puts it-- "Fresh Media is bigger and louder than I remember".

As our new Interactive Designer, Lauren will be the lead designer on interactive, animated, and audio/video projects.

IN PRINT

Fresh Media was recently profiled in two publications.  Melody was profiled in the November edition of the Employment Journey, a PEI publication for career planning and job seeking.  Melody was interviewed about what makes Fresh Media's workplace a great place for our employees, and creating a fun and creative culture.  Meanwhile, Robbie was interviewed for the November/December edition of the Charlottetown Chamber Magazine on Social Media.  Interviewed by Nicole Phillips from the Chamber Communications Committee, Robbie discussed the importance of planning and positioning when it comes to jumping into social marketing.

CHARLOTTETOWN CHAMBER NOMINATION

Fresh Media was recently a finalist for the 2009 Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce Workplace Excellence Award, co-sponsored by BFM Chartered Accountants and Cox & Palmer. We joined fellow nominees PEI Energy Systems, and the winner of the award, D.P. Murphy Inc.

Dianne Griffin, Recruitment and Placement Co-ordinator for D.P. Murphy, has done a tremendous job providing D.P. Murphy employees with a great place to work, filled with development opportunities and benefits. We congratulate D.P. Murphy for their very deserving win.

We'd also like to extend our thanks to Heidi Lawlor from ScotiaBank Charlottetown for the nomination.

Since Fresh Media's first hire, we have been determined and driven to create a positive, respectful, caring, and fun environment. Being a finalist for the Workplace Excellence Award is really about being a family first and foremost, then a company.

Melody and Robbie wish to thank all the Fresh Media family for making each day a fun and creative adventure!

BEYOND SILENCE BOOK PUBLISHED

Fresh Media is proud to announce that the very important book, "Beyond Silence: The Voices of Childhood Sexual Abuse", has been published.

The book, which is a partner project of S.A.G.E. PEI and Acorn Press, showcases a collection of writings, poems and images of 14 Island women who were abused as children to show how this has profoundly affected their lives.

Fresh Media was honored to help bring awareness to the project, and we are tremendously proud of all survivors, supporters and volunteers that have worked very hard to bring this book and the stories behind it to the forefront.

Copies of the book can be ordered through the S.A.G.E. website, and will soon be available at fine bookstores across P.E.I. and the rest of Canada.

NATIONAL CAMPAIGN EXPOSURE

Fresh Media's creative has been profiled in the Globe And Mail.

Partnering with the PEI Population Secretariat, Fresh Media created the campaign "It's About Time", whose goal is to encourage skilled workers to move to Prince Edward Island.  The center of the campaign is a video, written and directed by Fresh Media, which takes the bold choice to sell PEI through animation, and focuses on selling lifestyle over picturesque vistas.

In the Globe And Mail article, journalist Erin Anderssen comments on how the marketing strategy, along with investment and settlement help, appears to be paying off for PEI.

The "It's About Time" video can be viewed in Our Work section.

GUEST PANELIST

As part of Small Business Week, Melody Dover was recently invited to be one of four panelists at ProfitLearn PEI's "What Makes My Workplace a Great Place to Work".  This breakfast panel presentation allowed each member to offer their thoughts on staffing, retention, and the dynamics of a strong work culture.

Joining Melody on the panel were Evertt Roche from MRSB, Bobby Dunn from Trius Tours/Charlottetown Transit, and Susan Frizzel from Deltaware Systems.

Thanks to ProfitLearn PEI and UPEI for inviting Melody to be a part of the panel, as well as all those that attended.

FOOD DRIVE

Congratulations to K-Rock 105.5 and Ocean 100 on the tremendous accomplishment they achieved with their recent "Locked-In For The Food Bank" food drive. Together, these Island radio stations raised over $8,000 dollars in monetary donations, plus they collected over 12,000 pounds of food-- some of which was orange-flavoured-- for the local Food Bank!

Fresh Media was proud to contribute to this worthy cause. Pictured with our contribution is Rose Stenabaugh, our Studio Manager, and Colin McKay, co-host of K-Rock's morning show. We're not quite sure how Homer made it into the photo, however.

PROFIT W100 NOMINATION

Melody Dover was recently nominated for the Profit W100: Canada's Top Women Entrepreneurs.

Now in its 11th year, PROFIT Magazine highlights the individual achievements and economic contributions of Canada's female entrepreneurs. The W100 program also allows PROFIT to depict the opportunities and challenges facing women entrepreneurs, and to identify and share the best practices of woman-run companies so that other businesses might learn from them.

We're extremely honored that Melody was nominated to be a part of the Profit W100.

GOLFING FOR A WORTHY CAUSE

Fresh Media was proud to support the annual PEI Rape & Sexual Assault Centre golf tournment held at the Brudenell Golf Course. Pictured left-to-right are Monica Rooney, Executive Assistant at Fresh Media, Trish Walsh from Kwik Kopy Printing in Charlottetown, Melody Dover, President of Fresh Media, and Merle Robillard, a professional photographer from Toronto. Fresh Media had contracted Merle for several client photo shoots, and was happy to have him join the ladies on the golf course.

While the Fresh Team finished no where near the top of the leader board, we were more than happy to support the PEI Rape & Sexual Assault Centre and help raise funds for this worthy cause.

WE'VE HIRED ROSE!

Fresh Media would like to welcome Rose Stenabaugh to our team! With an extensive career in sales and marketing, Rose joins Fresh Media as our new Studio Manager. Rose's primary role is to be the go-to person for all Fresh Media projects. With a passion for creativity, detail, and client experience, Rose is a tremendous addition to the Fresh Media family.

PEI BUSINESS HALL OF FAME

A standing ovation goes to Don Smith of Metro Building Supplies Ltd, Ray Murphy of Murphy's Pharmacies, and Jim Casey of Padinox Inc on their recent induction into the PEI Junior Achievement Prince Edward Island Business Hall of Fame.  These incredible and hardworking entrepreneurs set the standard for business excellence on Prince Edward Island, and everyone at Fresh Media congratulates them for their well deserved inductions.

Fresh Media designed all print materials for the Annual Awards Gala and Induction Ceremonies.

LAUNCH SYMPOSIUM

UPEI was host to the first edition of "Launch- A Symposium on Growing PEI Business". With tremendous speakers like Arlene Dickinson from Venture Communications and CBC's Dragon's Den, as well as Doug Hall, CEO of Eureka Ranch, Launch offered Island business owners with the opportunity to discuss practical business management approaches and challenges in today's Market. Both Melody and Robbie wish to congratulate everyone involved in organizing the symposium on a successful and thought provoking event.

HOLLAND COLLEGE REVIEW BOARD

Melody and Robbie once again participated in the Holland College Graphic Design Advisory Committee. For many years, Melody and Robbie have made it a priority to be part of the Advisory Committee to offer suggestions and feedback on the design program which they are both graduates from.

REBRANDING THE PEIBWA

Melody recently attended the 2009 Women in Business Symposium where she unveiled the new brand identity and tagline for the Prince Edward Island Business Women's Association (PEIBWA). Fresh Media partnered with the PEIBWA to define the three pillars of the association's brand promise into a new tagline. Once the tagline was finalized, Fresh Media then custom designed a new brand identity that would visually tell the story of the new brand promise.

The new brand identity and tagline will be fully incorporated into the PEIBWA's communications over the next year.

As a member of the PEIBWA since founding Fresh Media, Melody can truly say it was pleasure to be a part of the launch of this new brand for an association that has indeed supported, inspired, and helped Melody achieve her own success as a woman in business.

AIM CONFERENCE

Melody and Robbie recently attended the 2009 AIM Conference at Dalhousie University in Halifax.  The Atlantic Internet Marketing Conference was a 2 day event with over 25 experts discussing various internet marketing topics.  It was a tremendous event with trends, new technologies, and social media at the forefront of the sessions.

THE ALL STARS

Fresh Media is proud to once again support the Rotary Club of Charlottetown by taking part of their annual advertising supplement. For this year's photo, and in honour of the upcoming 2009 PEI Canada Games, we decided to profile each our hidden sport talents.

Visit our ALL STARS web site to read our alter-ego origins, listen to our theme tunes, and discover more about all our hidden talents!

TALKING WITH STUDENTS

Melody Dover was recently invited to speak with the students from the Holland College Graphic Design and Interactive Multimedia programs.  With every single member of the Fresh Media team being an alumni from Holland College-- and with several of us multiple graduates from different programs-- it's always rewarding to speak with talented students about working in the creative industry.

SPEED NETWORKING

Hosted by Melody and Robbie Dover of Fresh Media, another successful Speed Networking event recently took place in partnership with the Prince Edward Island Business Women's Association.

The attending PEIBWA members had the opportunity to quickly make new business contacts, perfect their 30 second pitch, all the while having a great time.

Speed Networking is another fresh idea from Fresh Media. For more information on this fun and fast paced networking event, visit the Speed Networking web site.

BIDDING TOGETHER TO SUPPORT A WORTHWHILE CAUSE

For a little while, it was looking like Fresh Media wouldn't be successful with a winning bid on any of the gingerbread houses for the "Come Home Sweet Home - Buy a House to Build a Home" campaign for Habitat for Humanity PEI. After being outbid for one of the houses, we decided to step things up. So we called out the person who was out bidding us... and then decided to join forces for the better cause.

Partnering with Joel Ives from Century 21 Colonial Realty Inc., we were successful in purchasing THREE gingerbread houses which were donated by Campbell Lea.

Congratulations to The Shops of Confederation Court Mall, K-Rock 105.5, and Habitat for Humanity PEI on another successful fundraiser.

Now... if we could just figure out how Joel managed to get his Century 21 signs in front of the houses...
