  • HOLLAND COLLEGE 2018 GRADUATION SPEAKER
We were proud to have 'the boss' share her own journey as a Holland College graduate with the crowd at the 2018 Holland College Graduation as their guest speaker. She not only spoke at one, but two graduation ceremonies when she was called in short notice to replace the morning speaker who could not make it. We’d say that she pretty much nailed it with both speeches but we’re biased, of course!

It was a tremendous honour to be invited to be a part of this milestone for so many talented Holland College graduates. Congrats again to all of this year's grads; we can't wait to see the impact you’ll make on our world!

  • BURGER LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN
Well not exactly, but we were on multiple screens! ;)

For a different twist on our PEI Burger Love wrap up and ‘Most Loved Burger’ winner announcement, we partnered with Eastlink to air all the beefy results LIVE on Island View and Facebook.

It was great fun to chat with host Matt Beardsley on live TV about all of the amazing positive highlights from this past campaign, and to broadcast a big congrats to this year’s Most Love Burger winner, One-Eyed Jack from the Pilot House!

If you missed out on the live airing, you can still see the full Island View episode on Eastlink’s Facebook page.

  • OWNING YOUR BRAND
From start ups to established companies, knowing when and how to protect your brand is key. This was the core theme for the ‘Owning Your Brand’ presentation Melody conducted at a recent Start Up Zone Lunch and Learn session.

Melody addressed the importance of nurturing and managing your brand, and chatted about our successful and growing PEI Burger Love brand. She also shared select client experiences and offered tips in relation to managing trademarks and protecting the brand you establish as a business, or with a product.

Thanks to all the inspiring start-up entrepreneurs who attended this session, and for the great Q&A at the end. We wish them all the most success in their entrepreneurial journey!

  • ADD A LITTLE MAGIC TO YOUR MARKETING
For over a decade, Fresh Media has been a part of the the local Charlottetown Rotary supplement publication. This supplement is a great fundraiser for the local Rotary to support their various community projects.

Each year, we go the extra mile and develop a fun theme to go with our Rotary photo, and this year we let our dark sides out with a little rendition of the magical dark arts!

It’s not exactly smoke and mirrors, but we have been known to make some awesome brands appear out of thin air, websites that will draw you into a portal of wonder, cast campaigns that will captivate your attention, and we do believe in unicorns… so I guess you could say we actually DO have magical powers!

  • 2017 HOLLAND COLLEGE ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENT
We’re pumped to share that Melody was recognized as a 2017 HOLLAND COLLEGE ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENT alongside other recipients John Sylvester and Melanie Wildman.

Since attending Holland College for both Graphic Design and Interactive Multimedia programs, Melody has had a diverse career path. After graduating from the Graphic Design program, she worked in editorial layout for NNSL.com in Yellowknife, freelanced in both graphic design and illustration contracts, illustrated three published children's books, plus she taught cartooning to kids. Upon returning back to PEI, she reprised her role in newsprint as Production Coordinator at a local publication, and several years later, ventured back to Holland College to upgrade her skills in the Interactive Multimedia program.

In 2003, Melody founded Fresh Media, and has hired and worked beside many Holland College graduates, along with other talented folks, over the 15 years of the company.

Melody is always proud to acknowledge her roots at Holland College… along with the fact that she met her future hubby/business partner, Robbie, while attending the campus too! :)

  • 2017 GIVE BACK BURGER RECIPIENTS
For the 7th annual PEI Burger Love campaign, we introduced the new ‘Give Back Burger’ initiative as part of our beefy campaign.

The program saw 36 of the participating PEI Burger Love restaurants opting in to donate $1 from each of the burgers they sold in April to support Food Security Grant Programs in partnership with the United Way of PEI.

We’re bursting with pride to share the list of recipients who received Give Back Burger grant money; especially realizing all the good that will be from these worthy organizations and programs and how they will help our province address food security challenges.

Special thanks to all of the participating restaurants who donated, as well as to our burger fans who chose to support our Give Back Burger program with their burger purchases!

  • PAYING IT FORWARD IS NO SMALL POTATOES
We have been working with WP Griffin, a local PEI Potato grower, packer and shipper, for over a decade. So when they asked us to help out with their mission to give back to sick kids through the sales of potatoes— we were more than happy to jump on board!

Knowing they wanted to develop a program where they could pay it forward as part of a partnership with Sobeys and the Grocery Foundation, our role was to develop the strategy, branding, packaging, plus full creative development for it… and then promote it though digital and social media marketing.

The creative result was the ‘Dig in. Do Good.’ campaign; specially designed PEI Potato bags that urged Atlantic Canadians to stock up on spuds to add a little extra 'Do Good' to their meals. For every 'Dig In Do Good' bag purchased, WP Griffin donated 25¢ in support of the IWK, CHU Dumont, and Janeway Children's Hospital Foundations. In addition, for every 10,000 bags sold, an additional $1,000 would be donated!

We’re extra proud to say that in less than 2 months of promotion, over $31,500 was raised. Now that’s how you give back in the most tater-riffic way! To learn more visit visit www.DigInDoGood.com.
  • REBRANDING AN ISLAND NON-PROFIT
We are so proud to have worked with the incredible folks at AIDS PEI on the development of a new name, positioning and branding for their organization; now known as PEERS Alliance.

Thanks to Study Abroad for inviting Melody to speak with their new entrepreneur class on marketing, branding, and getting your story out to potential customers. This class was for newcomers to PEI and Canada, and it was great to have an opportunity to meet some of the new faces of business in our Island community.

We’re looking forward to seeing just how their businesses and ideas unfold in the coming months.
  • Fries With The Works
Have you ever had Fries With The Works (FWTW)? If not, you should!

We recently partnered with the PEI Potato Board to help define, brand, and shine a spotlight on this traditional Island dish that has been satisfying our cravings for a hearty helping of spuds for decades.

We took our research for this promotion quite seriously, so much so that we sampled more than our fair share of FWTW to get to bottom of what makes it so darn tasty! But the best discovery of all was speaking to the daughters of the originator of this now famed local recipe and how it all came about.

Check out frieswiththeworks.ca for the origin story and other tasty tidbits. We guarantee you’ll be hungry so make sure to plan a dinner date and try FWTW for yourself.

We are proud to have partnered with the United Way of PEI as the recipient of the funds, and are excited to announce that they are using the funds to launch the ‘Island Food Security Grant Programs’. After a month filled with unique and local culinary pork dishes, BBQ Bourbon Pork Belly Tacos has been voted the winner of PEI Porktoberfest 2016 by hungry Islanders.

This was the 5th annual PEI Porktoberfest campaign, a month-long celebration of PEI pork created by Fresh Media, and presented in partnership with Prince Edward Island Hog Producers, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Hometown Pork.

As part of the campaign, the twenty participating restaurants cooked up their preferred dish featuring PEI Pork. Islanders were encouraged to try these dishes all October and vote for their favourite based on originality, flavour and taste. When all the votes were tallied, John Brown Grille’s BBQ Bourbon Pork Belly Tacos was voted the winner.

The dish was the creation of Head Chef Mikolai Lykow, and featured two soft shell tacos stuffed with 6 oz of bourbon-braised PEI Pork Belly, homemade BBQ sauce, jalapeño bacon and corn chutney, greens, and topped with chipotle maple aioli and cajun crispy bits.

This means that sales of just the burgers was over $2.2 million in only 30 days. It is estimated that the minimum overall economic impact was over $3.5 million when we factor each burger purchase included a combination of side, beverage and tip.

We’re proud to see our campaign continue to grow and thrive each year!

Last but not least, congratulations to Kyle Panton and all of the hard working team at The Brickhouse Kitchen & Bar for creating PEI Burger Love’s Most Loved Burger 2016! www.peiburgerlove.ca

  • AND THE PORKTOBERFEST WINNER IS…
After another successful PEI Porktoberfest, it’s clear that the Ultimate Bacon Sandwiches were a hit! During October, over 11,000 sandwiches were purchased, approximately a 20% increase from last year’s campaign. This equalled over 4,600 lbs of pork consumed, and an economic impact of $144,525 in sales of just the sandwiches alone, up over $21,000 from 2014.

And just how do you earn the title of Best PEI Porktoberfest Chef? You start with a bacon weave made of local PEI Pork.

We were proud to crown Chef was Craig O’Neill from Brothers 2 in Summerside as the 4th winner of our annual PEI Porktoberfest campaign. The public sunk their teeth into this delicious creation and voted the ‘B2 Piggyback’ as their top choice.

The winning bacon sandwich featured a smoked maplewood bacon weave, sautéed spinach, fresh mango salsa, caramelized onions, tomato, old cheddar, swiss cheese, and honey mustard mayo all on grilled homemade bread. It will remain on the menu at Brothers 2 for the year, so you will have your chance to sample it for yourself!
