Huge shout out to the folks who helped pull together the Dotgain conference November 2nd, 2018.

It was a wonderful day immersed in all things creative, from Jud Haynes sharing his career story, to the screening of Design Canada - Documentary Film, to the Comic Book Panel with Sandy Carruthers, Tyler Landry, Troy Little and Brenda Hickey Artworks, to Steven Garrity of silver orange and Paul Lopes of Thinking Big sharing insights on getting a big idea executed, to the wrap up for the day with our Boss Lady - Mel speaking on what it takes to be in business in this industry along with some 'colourful' experiences over the last 23 years in the profession.

We look forward to attending this event again next year!

This lovely brew was aged for eight months in Bourbon Barrels that Moth Lane HQ, and is a perfect blend of bootlegging history, premium rich flavour and Eric's dedication to the craft of brewing a perfect ale.

It was our pleasure to with them on the development of the branding, and creating a memorable label that you can peruse which you enjoy this large bottled ale with your best brew buddy!

T’is the season for reviewing amazing talent from across our great nation! Melody returned to the judges table for COPA (Canadian Online Publishing Awards), CMA (Canadian Marketing Awards), and CAMA (Canadian Agriculture Marketing Awards).

It is without a doubt that we have the most incredible creative minds from tip-to-tip across Canada. Each entry was not only intriguing and inspiring, but well executed and engaging. Cheers to all of the entrants and finalist. Good luck on big night(s)!

One again we are more than proud and thankful to the participating PEI Burger Love restaurants who donated funds collected with their Give Back Burgers to the United Way of PEI in support of the Food Grant program. We look forward to seeing what projects and programs the $59,000 will assist with in the coming months.

We were proud to have 'the boss' share her own journey as a Holland College graduate with the crowd at the 2018 Holland College Graduation as their guest speaker. She not only spoke at one, but two graduation ceremonies when she was called in short notice to replace the morning speaker who could not make it. We’d say that she pretty much nailed it with both speeches but we’re biased, of course!

It was a tremendous honour to be invited to be a part of this milestone for so many talented Holland College graduates. Congrats again to all of this year's grads; we can't wait to see the impact you’ll make on our world!

Well not exactly, but we were on multiple screens! ;)

For a different twist on our PEI Burger Love wrap up and ‘Most Loved Burger’ winner announcement, we partnered with Eastlink to air all the beefy results LIVE on Island View and Facebook.

It was great fun to chat with host Matt Beardsley on live TV about all of the amazing positive highlights from this past campaign, and to broadcast a big congrats to this year’s Most Love Burger winner, One-Eyed Jack from the Pilot House!

If you missed out on the live airing, you can still see the full Island View episode on Eastlink’s Facebook page.

From start ups to established companies, knowing when and how to protect your brand is key. This was the core theme for the ‘Owning Your Brand’ presentation Melody conducted at a recent Start Up Zone Lunch and Learn session.

Melody addressed the importance of nurturing and managing your brand, and chatted about our successful and growing PEI Burger Love brand. She also shared select client experiences and offered tips in relation to managing trademarks and protecting the brand you establish as a business, or with a product.

Thanks to all the inspiring start-up entrepreneurs who attended this session, and for the great Q&A at the end. We wish them all the most success in their entrepreneurial journey!

For over a decade, Fresh Media has been a part of the the local Charlottetown Rotary supplement publication. This supplement is a great fundraiser for the local Rotary to support their various community projects.

Each year, we go the extra mile and develop a fun theme to go with our Rotary photo, and this year we let our dark sides out with a little rendition of the magical dark arts!

It’s not exactly smoke and mirrors, but we have been known to make some awesome brands appear out of thin air, websites that will draw you into a portal of wonder, cast campaigns that will captivate your attention, and we do believe in unicorns… so I guess you could say we actually DO have magical powers!

We’re pumped to share that Melody was recognized as a 2017 HOLLAND COLLEGE ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENT alongside other recipients John Sylvester and Melanie Wildman.

Since attending Holland College for both Graphic Design and Interactive Multimedia programs, Melody has had a diverse career path. After graduating from the Graphic Design program, she worked in editorial layout for NNSL.com in Yellowknife, freelanced in both graphic design and illustration contracts, illustrated three published children's books, plus she taught cartooning to kids. Upon returning back to PEI, she reprised her role in newsprint as Production Coordinator at a local publication, and several years later, ventured back to Holland College to upgrade her skills in the Interactive Multimedia program.

In 2003, Melody founded Fresh Media, and has hired and worked beside many Holland College graduates, along with other talented folks, over the 15 years of the company.

Melody is always proud to acknowledge her roots at Holland College… along with the fact that she met her future hubby/business partner, Robbie, while attending the campus too! :)

For the 7th annual PEI Burger Love campaign, we introduced the new ‘Give Back Burger’ initiative as part of our beefy campaign.

The program saw 36 of the participating PEI Burger Love restaurants opting in to donate $1 from each of the burgers they sold in April to support Food Security Grant Programs in partnership with the United Way of PEI.

We’re bursting with pride to share the list of recipients who received Give Back Burger grant money; especially realizing all the good that will be from these worthy organizations and programs and how they will help our province address food security challenges.

Special thanks to all of the participating restaurants who donated, as well as to our burger fans who chose to support our Give Back Burger program with their burger purchases!

We have been working with WP Griffin, a local PEI Potato grower, packer and shipper, for over a decade. So when they asked us to help out with their mission to give back to sick kids through the sales of potatoes— we were more than happy to jump on board!

Knowing they wanted to develop a program where they could pay it forward as part of a partnership with Sobeys and the Grocery Foundation, our role was to develop the strategy, branding, packaging, plus full creative development for it… and then promote it though digital and social media marketing.

The creative result was the ‘Dig in. Do Good.’ campaign; specially designed PEI Potato bags that urged Atlantic Canadians to stock up on spuds to add a little extra 'Do Good' to their meals. For every 'Dig In Do Good' bag purchased, WP Griffin donated 25¢ in support of the IWK, CHU Dumont, and Janeway Children's Hospital Foundations. In addition, for every 10,000 bags sold, an additional $1,000 would be donated!

We’re extra proud to say that in less than 2 months of promotion, over $31,500 was raised. Now that’s how you give back in the most tater-riffic way! To learn more visit visit www.DigInDoGood.com.
We are so proud to have worked with the incredible folks at AIDS PEI on the development of a new name, positioning and branding for their organization; now known as PEERS Alliance.

Over the course of the new brand development, we truly saw first hand the passion and dedication that everyone connected to this important organization has for our Island communities. It was an incredible journey for us personally, and we invite everyone to visit www.PEERSAlliance.ca to learn more about all the programs and services they offer across PEI.

Congratulations to the creative ‘Taco Team’ at Hunter's Ale House for being voted BEST CHEF 2017 as part of our PEI Porktoberfest campaign! If you haven't tried the Hunter's Cornita PEI Pork Taco yet, get your butt over to their restaurant for one tasty treat while it remains on the menu.

Thanks again to all of our PEI Porktoberfest fans for a fun month of celebrating our Island Hog Farmers.
Melody returned to the judging table for a fourth year to review the finalist for the 2017 Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA).

Numerous entries from across our country were vying for the top recognition for their creative work in a variety of categories. This annual award program recognizes the broad talents of the editorial, design and journalism professionals who create compelling online content.

It is a truly inspiring experience to be a part of this award each year. :)

Thanks to Study Abroad for inviting Melody to speak with their new entrepreneur class on marketing, branding, and getting your story out to potential customers. This class was for newcomers to PEI and Canada, and it was great to have an opportunity to meet some of the new faces of business in our Island community.

We’re looking forward to seeing just how their businesses and ideas unfold in the coming months.
  • Fries With The Works
Have you ever had Fries With The Works (FWTW)? If not, you should!

We recently partnered with the PEI Potato Board to help define, brand, and shine a spotlight on this traditional Island dish that has been satisfying our cravings for a hearty helping of spuds for decades.

We took our research for this promotion quite seriously, so much so that we sampled more than our fair share of FWTW to get to bottom of what makes it so darn tasty! But the best discovery of all was speaking to the daughters of the originator of this now famed local recipe and how it all came about.

Check out frieswiththeworks.ca for the origin story and other tasty tidbits. We guarantee you’ll be hungry so make sure to plan a dinner date and try FWTW for yourself.

We’re excited to share that Melody is representing PEI on the Advertising Judging Panel for the 2017 Canadian Marketing 50th Annual Awards! This a first for her, but we know she’ll use her keen critical eye to select the best-of-the- best. Good luck to all of the entries, we look forward to seeing who comes out on top for each category.

For the 2017 PEI Burger Love campaign, we introduced the ‘Give Back Burger’ where the 36 restaurants a part of the initiative donated $1 from every burger they sold. When the grills were turned off at the end of April, more than $60,000 was raised.

We are proud to have partnered with the United Way of PEI as the recipient of the funds, and are excited to announce that they are using the funds to launch the ‘Island Food Security Grant Programs’. Island charities will now have the opportunity to apply for one of these grants to increase food security programs, and we look forward to seeing what ideas come forth to help increase access to local and affordable food for Islanders.

Fresh Media is thrilled to know that the funds raised through the Give Back Burgers will create a positive impact for many Islanders in our community. For more information on the Island Food Security Programs, visit www.peiunitedway.com

Melody will be speaking at the PEI Entrepreneurship Forum - “Create Opportunity in Your Community.” April 26th at the Mill River Experience Resort.

We’re happy to see that she will be rubbing elbows with the famous Pete Luckett of Pete’s Frootique and Luckett Vineyards, Kara Angus- founder and CEO of Go-Go Group Inc., along with other local entrepreneurs.

This FREE event hosted by CBDC West Prince Ventures Ltd. is a tremendous opportunity to brush up on your business skills.

This year, as a part of our 7th PEI Burger Love, we have included a new element - Give Back Burgers. Of the 84 PEI Burger Love restaurants, 36 are participating as Give Back Burger restaurants and throughout the month of April, they will PROUDLY DONATE $1 for each PEI Burger Love burger they sell this month TO THE UNITED WAY OF PEI.

All donations made to the United Way stay on Prince Edward Island, and every dollar raised through the Give Back Burger will fund programs that increase access to local and affordable food for Islanders.

We’re thrilled to see what the United Way of PEI will be able to accomplish though the funds raised this month.

Melody recently had the pleasure of speaking at a round table of up and coming women entrepreneurs about what it means to be in business on PEI.

A frank discussion on getting started, the pitfalls of growing, the pressure of being on top of your game, celebrating successes and building a solid future of your business. Served with a side of laughter and vibrant stories. it was a great way opportunity to speak directly with the next realm of business leaders.

Special thanks to Katharine MacDonald, Ellevate Program Coordinator, for putting together such lively afternoon.

We're proud to welcome Meredith MacDonald to Fresh Media as our new Digital Account Manager!

Thanks to the folks at Holland College for the profile of Melody and Robbie in the latest edition of the Benchmark. Also, some of Fresh Media's team is comprised of alumni from Holland College programs varying from Graphic Design, to Photography and Multimedia, so it makes us extra proud to be a part of this publication. :) Check out the issue!

After a month filled with unique and local culinary pork dishes, BBQ Bourbon Pork Belly Tacos has been voted the winner of PEI Porktoberfest 2016 by hungry Islanders.

This was the 5th annual PEI Porktoberfest campaign, a month-long celebration of PEI pork created by Fresh Media, and presented in partnership with Prince Edward Island Hog Producers, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Hometown Pork.

As part of the campaign, the twenty participating restaurants cooked up their preferred dish featuring PEI Pork. Islanders were encouraged to try these dishes all October and vote for their favourite based on originality, flavour and taste. When all the votes were tallied, John Brown Grille’s BBQ Bourbon Pork Belly Tacos was voted the winner.

The dish was the creation of Head Chef Mikolai Lykow, and featured two soft shell tacos stuffed with 6 oz of bourbon-braised PEI Pork Belly, homemade BBQ sauce, jalapeño bacon and corn chutney, greens, and topped with chipotle maple aioli and cajun crispy bits.

Over the month, there were 5,567 dishes sold as part of the campaign, equally over 2,500 lbs of Island Pork being enjoyed. Sales of the pork dishes equalled approximately $89,000.00 in just 30 days, and since its launch, the food campaign has helped to sell over 15,500 lbs of local pork.

The winning Pork Belly Tacos are expected to return to John Brown Grille’s menu soon.

There’s nothing more empowering than seeing an idea become a success. When you get to do that with the great team at the PEI Business Women’s Association (PEIBWA), it makes it even sweeter!

The idea for Camp Dynamo was created in partnership between Fresh Media and the PEIBWA as an annual fundraising event for the association; as well as a retreat for professional women and entrepreneurs to unplug from their daily routine, and to have the chance to spend some quality time focused on their business and themselves.

Camp Dynamo came to life on September 30th and October 1st at the historic Dalvay By The Sea property. An exclusive environment for 75 like-minded powerful women to come together and learn from the Camp Leaders, share stories, inspire one another, and to leave with renewed vigour to achieve their goals.

Fresh Media was front and centre at Camp Dynamo as a co-presenter, marketer, and Camp Leader with two workshop sessions - The Power of What If and Defining The Why.

We’re so happy to have received positive feedback from this inaugural event, and we look forward to building on its future with the PEIBWA.

If you missed out on Camp Dynamo, visit http://campdynamo.ca to learn more about you could experience at the 2017 event. We hope to see you there!

  • LUCKY #13
We can hardly believe it but we are officially celebrating our 13th year in business at Fresh Media this July! Each passing year has brought new creative challenges and adventures, and we are excited for what is yet to come. We owe a huge thanks to all of our clients past and present, along with our stellar team that makes coming to the office each day so much better.

If you’re in the neighbourhood, drop by for toast with us. :)
We’re proud to be a Performance Sponsor for The Island Summer Review 4 at Harmony House Theatre again this year. If you haven’t attended the show then grab a ticket and settle in for a night of belly laughs and toe-tapping good times. Patrick Ledwell and Mark Haines pull out all the stops for a fun-loving Island show that pokes just the right amount of humour at our province.
We have been members of the PEI Business Women’s Association since 2003. We appreciate the hard work and determination required to start a company, grow it, and maintain it. Each year the PEIBWA Symposium offers the opportunity for members and non-members to network, learn and be inspired by others in our community. We were proud to have Melody participate in the 'Sweat The Small Stuff' and 'Reaching An Audience Through Untraditional Methods' panels. It was great to share our business journey and of course to learn from the other panelists. We look forward to year 2017!
When all the grills were turned off this April, a record breaking 163,170 burgers were enjoyed across the Island, equalling 71,821 lbs of Island Beef. This means that sales of just the burgers was over $2.2 million in only 30 days. It is estimated that the minimum overall economic impact was over $3.5 million when we factor each burger purchase included a combination of side, beverage and tip.

We’re proud to see our campaign continue to grow and thrive each year!

Last but not least, congratulations to Kyle Panton and all of the hard working team at The Brickhouse Kitchen & Bar for creating PEI Burger Love’s Most Loved Burger 2016! www.peiburgerlove.ca
Melody recently wrapped up a mini speaking tour around the Island where she chatted with different groups about the effects of local marketing campaigns on our Island communities.

In early April, she spoke to the Hillsborough Rotary, and then with the Executive Breakfast Group. Melody then had the chance to share with the PEI Strawberry Growers Association at their annual general meeting.

No matter the group, the universal feedback received was that loving local and supporting our industries year round is good for all of us.
  • ROCK ON!
Life is too short to take every moment seriously, so why not take the opportunity to shake things up a bit and have fun?

Each year at Fresh Media, we have a little extra fun with our photo for the local Charlottetown Rotary supplement publication. This supplement is a great fundraiser for the local Rotary who use funds from the publication to support their various projects.

This year, we let our inner rockers out with our FRESH METAL band photo. We had so much fun taking the photo, don’t be surprised if you see us in leathers and wigs at the office from time to time. www.royaltyrotary.ca
We are proud to announce that Melody has joined the Board of Directors of the United Way of Prince Edward Island. This long-standing organization has given back to our local community since 1962, and assist families, seniors, students and charities who depend on the help of others to execute their mission.

As well, Fresh Media recently donated our creative services to the United Way of PEI to get their annual fundraising campaign off the ground by contributing our design and consulting services for their campaign print marketing materials.

Please consider contributing a donation of any amount to continue to help the United Way of PEI give back to our Island communities. www.peiunitedway.com
After another successful PEI Porktoberfest, it’s clear that the Ultimate Bacon Sandwiches were a hit! During October, over 11,000 sandwiches were purchased, approximately a 20% increase from last year’s campaign. This equalled over 4,600 lbs of pork consumed, and an economic impact of $144,525 in sales of just the sandwiches alone, up over $21,000 from 2014.

And just how do you earn the title of Best PEI Porktoberfest Chef? You start with a bacon weave made of local PEI Pork.

We were proud to crown Chef was Craig O’Neill from Brothers 2 in Summerside as the 4th winner of our annual PEI Porktoberfest campaign. The public sunk their teeth into this delicious creation and voted the ‘B2 Piggyback’ as their top choice.

The winning bacon sandwich featured a smoked maplewood bacon weave, sautéed spinach, fresh mango salsa, caramelized onions, tomato, old cheddar, swiss cheese, and honey mustard mayo all on grilled homemade bread. It will remain on the menu at Brothers 2 for the year, so you will have your chance to sample it for yourself!
