LAUREN McKINNEY
Interactive Designer
At age 16, Lauren was pulled from her large, creative high school in New Brunswick and thrown into a small artless one somewhere in the countryside of PEI. She feared her dream of becoming an animator would be destroyed. But PEI wasn't all bad, and following high school she stayed on PEI to study Graphic Design and then Interactive Multimedia at Holland College.
After graduating, Lauren learned of Fresh Media... and since orange is her second favorite color after green... was hired as one of Fresh Media's first employees. Lauren did a little bit of everything from print design to animated web banners, and that's how she liked it. But after being with Fresh Media for over 2 years, she left the Fresh Family as she just couldn't pass up an opportunity to work on an animated TV show as a layout artist. After working on the show, Lauren spent some time in Toronto, chasing after her favorite comic artists, eating pho, and staring as an extra in a movie with Michael Cera.
Back in PEI, Lauren had to do some real work and began freelancing. But working at home-- alone-- really started to drive her crazy after a few months. Thankfully, she was welcomed back to the Fresh Family (bigger and louder than she remembers) to work on interactive, animated and audio/video projects.
"Lauren drinks coffee now."
